WE ARE HERE TO HELP RACERS...

At Road To Racing we believe that drivers with talent should be able to follow their passion, regardless of how wealthy their parents are. We want an inclusive sport supporting all athletes. We want to make dreams into reality by providing scholarships to deserving drivers, and advance amateur motorsport in Canada

WE ARE HERE TO HELP DONORS...

Road To Racing was inspired by the desire of motorsports fanatics to help amateur drivers, using charitable funds. As a registered amateur athletics association, we can accept donations and provide charitable tax deductible receipts! You can transfer money from your family foundation or donor advised fund or donate directly. We encourage our donors to follow along with us as we watch these young drivers win races, championships and live their dreams!

WE ARE HERE TO FIND THE BEST...

We are working with teams and industry professionals to find the best up and coming amateur motorsports drivers in Canada. We want to support them financially, together with advice and mentorship.

donor Q&A

Q. Is Road to Racing really a motorsports charity?

A. Yes! We are a registered Canadian Amateur Athletics Association focused solely on motorsports, and can issue charitable tax receipts.

Q. As a business can I donate to R2R or should I be a sponsor? Whats the difference?

A. You should talk to your accountant, but typically the tax result is the same, unless your business cannot justify the marketing expense to CRA. However you can NOT advertise your business on the car or get any other benefits with a donation. If you wish to utilize your contribution for advertising it cannot be a donation

Q. Can my family foundation or donor advised fund contribute?

A. Absolutely! We are a registered charity and regularly get donations from family foundations.

Q.How does Road To Racing spend my donation?

A. We are led by an unpaid volunteer board, so approximately 95% of funds raised goes directly to advancing motorsports in Canada. We have focused on providing scholarships to athletes that we see as having potential to move up the ranks.

Q. Who are the directors?

A. The directors are all racers themselves, and are passionate about helping young drivers. All are current or former business owners who are focused on getting the most bang for their buck in the sport.

Q. Can I donate to my child's racing fund?

A. No. We explicitly tell our drivers that donations directed from immediate family will be disallowed.

Q. Are you only western Canadian?

A. NO! We are committed to promoting amateur motorsports across all of Canada.

Q. Can I direct my donation to a particular athlete?

A. Yes donors can indicate their program preference for how R2R applies its donation, but CRA requires us to advise that ultimate authority on the use of resources rests with R2R. If there are circumstances where, for example, the athlete decides not to race, the funds raised for that athlete will not be returned or forwarded to the athlete but will be used to fund other deserving drivers

dRIVEr Q&A

Q. How can I become a R2R Driver?

A. If you are a championship winning Karter or entering Toyo F1600A, F4, USF or other approved series, you need to provide a resume of your recent racing, your qualities and values, your future plans, and explain how you would use the opportunity, together with a budget for the 2024 year (including sponsorship already in place) and a pitch deck. We have a selection committee who will be selecting a limited number of drivers for scholarships each year.

Q. Do I still need to raise my own money?

A. If approved you will be required to raise money either from sponsors or from donors. This program is a charitable fundraising platform for you to use to raise funds. Racing is a business and you need to be able to learn how to market yourself on and off the track. We expect to have funded scholarships available to apply for in early 2024.

Q. How much money can I expect to raise?

A. It really depends on you, but in our inaugural year of 2023 our 12 drivers raised collectively over $500,000, and several raised over $80,000 each. Some raised very little, but that is only limited by your imagination and hard work.

Q. Can my immediate family donate to my racing?

A. No. While they can donate to R2R general fundraising, their charitable donation cannot be directed specifically to your scholarship

Q.Can I still have my regular sponsors?

A. Yes, however if they donate through Road to Racing they cannot put a logo on your car for advertising or receive other benefits.

Q. Will Road to Racing help me raise money?

A. We are happy to work with you and provide guidance on raising money and approaching donors and sponsors.

Q. Does it matter which series I drove in or what part of Canada I am from?

A. NO! We are committed to promoting amateur motorsports across all of Canada. We will evaluate each drivers resume individually and rely on the advice of industry experts for selection of drivers

Q. Does the money raised from my giving groups belong to me?

A. No the money raised is Road To Racing's funds that must be spent on advancing amateur motorsports in Canada. Your project manager's contract with R2R will provide clarity, but R2R will only fund actual racing expenses incurred. If you quit racing, for example, the excess funds will NOT be forwarded to you or the project manager.
